Locals shut down Kaski District Administration

Locals of Pokhara have brought the Kaski District Administration Office (DAO) to a grinding halt as part of their indefinite strike to pressurise the government to take a swift decision on the construction of proposed Regional International Airport.

The agitators staged a sit-in outside the DAO from 9 in the morning by placing a banner across the office entrance. The DAO wore a deserted look as the protestors blocked the staffers including the chief district officer from entering the office.

They chanted slogans against the government outside the DAO premises.

Likewise, most of the government offices in the district have also been shut down for the third day due to the protest called by the airport construction stakeholders’ committee.

The locals, who had put their agitation on hold after Civil Aviation Minister Post Bahadur Bogati assured to resolve the issue within 15 days, resumed their strike after the 15-day timeline ended Saturday.

When Minister Bogati asked for 10 more days, saying the issue would require some more time to settle, locals decided ‘not to listen to the government anymore’ and not to rely on the false promises made by the government.
