Not so mysterious Raaz

If you are planning a horror-filled weekend with Raaz 3, chances are you will be disappointed as the so called ‘horror’ movie is not so thrilling. Of course, there are supernatural elements and at times you may get the chills, but most of the scenes and dialogues in the movie will make you laugh rather than be horror-stricken.

Raaz 3 is the story of a movie star Shanaya Shekhar (Bipasha Basu) who in her desire to remain in stardom forever seeks help of black magic with an evil spirit Tara (Manish Choudhary). Shanaya, to make her fame eternal, uses her lover Aaditya (Emraan Hashmi) to destroy her potential enemy, emerging star Sanjana (Esha Gupta). Shanaya’s initial desire of just giving pain to Sanjana turns to murderous motive. In this battle of good and evil, Aaditya has to choose one. To know the raaz of this movie, you have to go to the theatres.

The suspense and thriller aspects of the movie are weak. As you start watching the movie, it will not be very difficult for you to guess what happens the next. And even in the scenes that are supposed to frighten the audience, you will not help laughing. For instance, the evil spirit Tara made of different kinds of insects is disgusting to watch, when the hand of evil spirit comes out of TV screen to frighten Sanjana or when Aaditya is attacking the spirit looking for its reflection in a mirror. You won’t quite be impressed with the horror elements.

But the 3-D effect is visible throughout the movie which has brought depth to the otherwise so-so presentation of Raaz 3. It seems director Vikram Bhatt has this time paid all his attention to 3-D effects only! The background score is aptly designed and suit the horror genre. Even the songs are okay.

Basu steals the show of the movie with her versatile performance. The part of a confident star who is in control and at the same time a very weak person has been well-portrayed by her. Hashmi acts well and he has not missed to prove himself once again as Bollywood’s very own ‘Serial Kisser’. Gupta needs to improve her acting and dancing skills as well if she wants to climb the ladder of success in Bollywood, like the way she has been portrayed in the movie. Sadly, Choudhary as the evil spirit won’t frighten you.
