KATHMANDU:The student wing of the Nepali Congress, Nepal Students Union (NSU), has started to remove the hoarding boards of Plus Two colleges bearing foreign names.
NSU began the job from Saturday morning.
“We have removed five hoarding boards from Nayabaneshwor area,” said NSU Spokesman UP Lamichhane.
Though NSU had earlier given a memorandum with an ultimatum till today to the Ministry of Education, Higher Secondary Schools’ Association of Nepal, Private and Boarding Schools Association of Nepal and all the concerned stakeholders to remove the hoarding boards of those Plus Two colleges that have foreign names, they paid no heed only to oblige NSU to take the job.
Despite the Education Act says academic institutions should have a Nepali name, there are scores of of Plus Two colleges which have been named after some foreign colleges or universities.
Lamichhane said they would either be removing the hoarding boards or paint them black.
“If they continue to ignore our calls for removing the boards on their own, we will even padlock the colleges,” he said.
